Rethinking your house to get the extra living space you need now

Interior Design Q&A

If you’ve come to the realisation that your home is no longer the perfect fit for your current lifestyle or your growing family. Or you feel the current layout just doesn’t work well or you need more space. Perhaps you’re considering a knock-through or an extension.

Walk Interior design specialise in the actual ‘design’ aspect of an interior space, specifically space planning. From an initial meeting we can quickly assess whether you would benefit from a re-working of your property giving you the home you want to live in.

We can evaluate your needs and your current space and suggest adjustments to create a new area that not only looks good and is sympathetic to the building, but also adds value to the property by making it more like how people want to live today.

Some homes need more than just a new kitchen/bathroom installation or a contemporary glass add-on. These refurbishments need to be treated as a whole, carefully thinking through a combination of ideas to create fully considered designs with sensible and practical solutions that really work, independently AND together.

After an initial meeting we will put together a proposal/estimate. If you agree to it in principal, then we can expand and clarify what’s included as appropriate.

This may be a review of the over-all internal structure/room layout and current room function and could include re-purposing a storage area or a whole room for a much needed new use. Space is space and can be re-defined to make it work better for you!

Once this is sorted we then plan in the furniture footprint, purely to indicate the function and position, which in turn will dictate electrical and plumbing needs. For example, underfloor heating or radiators will all have an impact on the layouts, as well as the actual style choice.

Variable lighting sources will need to be considered as well as sockets/switches/TV point/positions and even which way doors should be hung. Window treatments are essential to include at this stage are all built-in structures and fixed surface finishes like flooring coverings. This might extend to the architectural fitting styles of fireplaces, doors/windows, skirtings, mouldings and ironmongery.

We could provide ideas for the style/finish/look etc of ANY ‘build’ related item. Inside or out.

Specifying actual furniture items, colours, materials and accessories could all come at a later stage - as needed.

The design cost for this is subject to your brief and the extent of detail/level of quality required for your design.
